The Director-General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Amit Yadav on Saturday issued the amendment in the export policy of masks. The government prohibits the export of all kinds of masks made of cotton, silk, wool, and knitted except non-surgical or non-medical.
Masks as part of India’s preparedness to face new coronavirus threats, the government has slightly tweaked export policy of masks in Schedule II of ITC HS Export Policy, 2018 to prohibit the export of masks of all kinds, except non-surgical or non-medical. The notification on February 8 thus permitted the export of surgical or disposable masks (2/3 ply) and all gloves except NBR (synthetic rubber) gloves. Overall, the items covered under these six HS codes were worth $1.3 billion in exports in 2018-19. Between April-December 2019-20, India exported $966.54 million worth of goods in these categories.
